Obituary for Clerus D Soppe

Clerus D. Soppe, 90, of Dubuque, passed away, Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Stonehill Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 3 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, where there will be a visitation from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. Fr. Steve Rosonke will officiate. Burial will be at Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Clerus was born on January 11, 1927 in Dyersville to Anton and Caroline (Lehmann) Soppe. He grew up in Dyersville and lived there until moving to Dubuque in 1943. He was employed at H& W Trucking in Dubuque for 36 years. Clerus served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Survivors include his sister Sr. Mary Antonita OSF of Dubuque; sister in law Rita Soppe of East Dubuque, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Reynold, Jerome, Florian, Alvin, Valerian, Eugene, and Leon Soppe, and sisters Leonette Scheller, Veralda Bieries, Monica Ferguson, Melita McCarthy, Mercedes Berryhill, and Sr. Agnetis Soppe OSF; and many brothers and sisters in law.


The family would like to thank Dr. Sullivan and his nurse, the staff and nurses at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for all their excellent care.
