This generous, kind and loving man leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Mary Kay, whom he married on October 17, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Church in Dubuque.
As a loving husband and father, he was actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of them left with unforgettable memories of their time with this unique man. Dale was happiest when laughing with his grandchildren on the way to the candy store in his antique fire truck, cheering them on at their sporting events, or teaching them life lessons while he worked with them in his shop. With his ever-positive attitude, Dale sought to instill in his children a zest for life, a commitment to family and friends and an attitude of service. He was especially proud of his five beautiful adopted Indian granddaughters. He was also an enthusiastic woodworker and loved his shop.
Born December 20, 1932 in Dubuque, Dale was the son of Carl C. and Estelle Mae (Kuntz) Launspach. He served in the United States Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955.
With his life-long business partner and brother-in-law, Dick Ludwig, he owned and operated Aladdin dry-cleaning and linen supply company for 47 years; they grew the company into a successful business in the Tri-State area, and throughout Iowa.
Dale enjoyed sports and was active in tennis, racquetball and swimming. He was also a dedicated distance runner throughout his life. Completing the Chicago marathon was one of the highlights of his life. He was Senior High School’s Men’s Tennis Doubles State Runner- Up two years in a row. Dale was also the first recipient of a tennis scholarship from the University of Dubuque and he played on their tennis team for two years.
Dale was an usher at St. Anthony’s Church for many years and later became a member of the Resurrection Church after the family’s move to “the barn” on Hales Mill Road in Asbury. He was also former President of the Dubuque Jaycees.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kay; children, Mary (Warren) White, of Cassville, WI., Steve (Tracy) Launspach, of Peosta, IA., Gerianne Launspach, of Dubuque, Dick (Lori) Launspach, of Dubuque, IA., Teri (Brian) Schulz, of Dubuque, and Maureen (Jeffrey) Bortscheller, of Dubuque; 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Barbara Ludwig; a close cousin, June “Butz” Mickel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Martin Dale; his parents; his sister, Darlene Johnstone; and his brother-in-law, Dick Ludwig.
