Obituary for Duane Dennis Deutmeyer

It is with great sadness that the family of Duane D. Deutmeyer, 88, of Dubuque, announces the loss of their husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Duane passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21 at Church of the Resurrection, with visitation from 9:00 to 10:45 prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary.

Duane was born on July 23, 1928 in Dubuque to Emil and Viola (Meyer) Deutmeyer. On November 23, 1950, he married the love of his life, Shirley Fink at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They celebrated 66 loving and joyous years of marriage together.

He held various jobs throughout his life, including owning his own service station, salesman, and photographer. One of his greatest joys was working with wood. He had a very creative artistic mind and put it to good use.
Always a man of a gentle nature, he cherished the time spent with his family. He had a quick wit and a heart of gold. He also enjoyed camping and gardening on his thirty acres of land.

Survivors include his wife Shirley; their children Duey (Jill) Deutmeyer of Long Grove, IA, Dawn (Joe) Hancock of Dubuque, Dan (Janet) Deutmeyer of Ilwaso, WA, Drew (Sherilyn) Deutmeyer of Littleton, CO, Daria Fleege of Dubuque, Darrell (Kelley) Deutmeyer of Dubuque, IA, Dina (Mike) Kettmann of Bellevue, IA, and Dirk (Rhonda) Deutmeyer of Epworth, IA; 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; and sisters DiAnn Ahearn and Darlene Ferrie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Robin Deutmeyer; and siblings Audrey Presenza, Leslie, Glen and Melvin Deutmeyer.

We will miss you!

A Duane D. Deutmeyer Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Dubuque and Stonehill Care Center for their wonderful care of Duane.
