Obituary for Sonja Marie Koch (Redmond)

Sonja M. (Redmond) Koch, 60, of Dubuque, died Sunday, February 19, 2017. Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. with a service to follow at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 23 at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd, Dubuque. A private family burial will be at Linwood Cemetery.
Sonja was born on December 13, 1956 in Dubuque to Ronald and Franziska (Zulka) Redmond. On September 1, 1978, she married Peter Koch at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dubuque. Peter was the love of her life and they shared 38 years of wonderful marriage together. Sonja was a homemaker who dedicated herself to raising her children. Sonja was a devoted wife, loving mother, and the best Nana.
Sonja was spunky; she was the life of any party and had a sense of humor that will be missed by all. She loved to socialize and always found joy in spending time with her friends and family and planning and decorating for special events. She especially enjoyed baking and trying new recipes, bowling, Euchre, and competitive games of Scrabble and Quiddler. Sonja loved to spoil her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Peter; their children Rudi (Danielle) Koch of Galena, IL, Kyle (Ellen) Koch of Dubuque, Ani (Shawn) Koch of Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren; brother Randy (Dawn) Redmond of Fort Collins, CO; her parents Ron and Sissi Redmond of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews, in-laws, uncles, and an aunt.
She was preceded in death by her brother Rick Redmond, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and her father-in law and mother-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, a Sonja M. Koch Memorial Fund has been established.
