Obituary for Shane C Broderick

Shane C.J. Broderick, 22, of Omaha, NE., formerly of Dubuque, IA died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. At 8 p.m. there will be a wake service with memories shared by Michael Heffernan, a friend from Creighton University; Anne Broderick, an aunt from Des Moines; and Amy Franson, a family friend from Dubuque. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Peosta, IA.
Shane was born April 22, 1994, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Joseph and Beth (Hasken) Broderick.
He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 2012 where he was the student body president. He was also a member of the State Championship Soccer and Cross Country teams; was captain of the wrestling team and competed at the state level; and he was named first team Academic All-State in both soccer and wrestling. He was a member of the Christian Leadership Committee and led retreats for his peers and younger students. His favorite memory at Wahlert was “going to class seven hours a day.”
Shane graduated from Creighton with honors in 2016 earning a BSBA in Financial Analysis and Accounting. He was a Heider College of Business Dean’s Fellow, and, in his final year, he was named the Decurion. He was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Honor Fraternity and a four-year member of the Dean’s Honor Roll for Social Responsibility. He was selected as a member of the Creighton University Business Executive Symposium Team; completed the Anna Tyler Waite Creighton Leadership Scholars Program; and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Following his graduation from Creighton, Shane traveled to Europe for a few months before beginning his work at KPMG as an international tax associate.
Shane will be remembered fondly by family, friends and colleagues for his kindness and enthusiasm for life. His smile lit up a room and no one remained a stranger in Shane's presence.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Beth Broderick of Dubuque; four siblings, Molly (Christopher) Conley of Austin, MN., Martin Broderick of Omaha, Daniel Broderick of Omaha, and Clare Broderick of Dubuque; his maternal grandparents, Earl and Doris Hasken of East Dubuque; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Vivian Broderick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used to start a Shane Broderick Memorial Scholarship.
The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family would especially like to thank the educators of St. Anthony’s, Mazzuchelli, Wahlert and Creighton and all of those who contributed to Shane’s faith-filled journey.
