Obituary for Marilyn E Troy (Daughtee)

Marilyn E. “Mick” Troy 80 of Dubuque, died Tuesday January 24, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at Holy Spirit Parish / Holy Ghost Church with Rev. Aaron Junge officiating. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 Thursday at the church where a scripture wake service will be recited at 6:00 p.m.

Mick was born on January 31, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle and Ruth (Sear) Daughetee Sr. On November 25, 1954, she married the love of her life, Vincent F. Troy. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2013. Mick worked for Brown
Publishing and the Telegraph Herald before becoming a homemaker. She loved camping at Wauepton, all the family trips to Daytona Beach, Florida and Las Vegas, and the joy of caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially bean soup for the siblings.

Surviving are her children, Debbie Roth, Diane “Dee Dee” (John) Richman, Jeff Troy, Donna (Kevin) Schmitt and Todd (Diana) Troy all of Dubuque; her grandchildren Amy, Jennifer, Joshua, Dan, Chris, Angie, Toni, Jessica, Ben, Andrea, Travis, Tyler, Nicole, Chase, Austin and Conner; several great grandchildren; daughter in law Jan Troy; her sisters Ruthann (Dave) Jarrad of Boise, ID, Donna (Oakley) Bandy, Larry Daughetee all of Dubuque; sisters-in-law Grace Daughetee, Marlene Troy and Janice Weipert all of Dubuque and her brother-in-law Harvey Beaver of Mountain Home, ARK.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Vincent Troy; her daughter Dorothy in infancy; her son Mike Troy in 2000; and son in law Randy Roth in 2003; her brother Lyle Daughetee Jr.; sisters JoAnn (Elmer) Pickel and Luella (LaVern) Pickel; sister-in-law Jane Daughetee; her father and mother-in-law Leonard and Katherine (McCarthen) Troy; brother-in-law Leo Troy; and sister-in-law Anna Mae Beaver.

A Marilyn E. “Mick” Troy memorial fund has been established.

The Troy family extends a special thank you to her daughter and son in law Donna and Kevin Schmitt for taking her into their home and giving her all the love and strength to live that extra time, granddaughter Nicole Schmitt for all the love and support, Dr. Caceres and Nurse Jackie; Dr. Janes; Hospice of Dubuque, especially Allison and Peggy; the staff at Mercy Medical Center 2nd and 3rd floors; and Dave and Mary Kay Schmitt for always welcoming her into their home and treating her so compassionately.
