Thomas R  Cooper
Thomas R. Cooper, 66, of Dubuque passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with his family at his side.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 9th at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion, Post 6 immediately following. Private family burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 3 – 7 p.m., on Sunday, January 8th at the Funeral Home.
Tom was born March 5, 1950 in Dubuque, the son of Robert and Violet (Jecklin) Cooper.
He married Mary Tippett on May 4, 1974 at St. Philomena Church in Belmont, Wisconsin.
Tom served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969-1972.
He was employed at John Deere for 30 years and retired in June of 2002, later was a pharmacy driver for Hartig Drug.
Tom and his wife Mary often visited parks near the river and just enjoyed being together. You could often find Tom tending to his yard, watching sports or having a coffee break on his patio. He cherished time spent with grandchildren and family. Tom's face would light up with joy each time he saw his
"Squirt" (Casey) and "Peanut"(Lily). He enjoyed watching his grandson Dylan's sporting events, who recently paid a tribute to Tom by winning a wrestling match for Grandpa.
Surviving is his wife., Mary; children, Todd Cooper, Matthew (fiancé Amy Pauley) Cooper, and Benjamin (fiancé Lindsey Hines) Cooper; grandchildren, Dylan Pauley, Casey and Lillian Cooper, all of Dubuque; siblings, Terry (Jan) Cooper, of Buckeye, AZ, and Jill (Jim) Scherr, of Avondale, AZ; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joan Lee, of Bemont, WI, Arnie Alt, of Cuba City, WI, Francis (Jayne) Tippett, of Belmont, WI, LaVerne (Elaine) Tippett, of Belmont, WI, Margaret (Marc) Bonin, of Platteville, Wi, Dolores (James) Young of LaCrosse, WI, and Bernadine Young, of New Orleans, LA; an aunt; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a special four legged friend, Sami J.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Robert (Marita) Tippett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Donna) Tippett, Charles Tippett, Lucille Alt, John Tippett, Sam Lee and Peter Young.
A Thomas Cooper Memorial Fund has been established.
