Obituary for Lola Kies (Woerdehoff)
Lola J. Kies 89, of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
Lola was born on the family farm in Petersburg, IA, on March 19, 1927, the daughter of Bernard and Henrietta (Klosterman) Woerdehoff. She and her family moved to Edgewood, IA and then to Dubuque where she attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. On February 8, 1947, Lola married Raymond J. Kies at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 2004. Lola worked for Medical Associates for close to 25 years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s parish for over 40 years and was a member of its choir and Rosary Society.
Lola is survived by her son Val Kies of Dubuque; her daughter Jane (Gene) Tully of Dubuque and their children Briana (Jim) Cushman of Dubuque, Mikaela (Justin) Foust of Dubuque and Laura Tully of Prescott, AZ; her great grandchildren James Cushman and Lola Cushman; her sister Elva Woerdehoff of Minneapolis, MN and her brother Merle Woerdehoff of Edgewood, IA .
She was preceded in death by her sister Vera (Cleo) Seward; her brothers John (Mildred) and Cyril (Kay) Woerdehoff; her sister-in-law Norma Woerdehoff.
A Lola J. Kies memorial fund has been established.
