Obituary for Viola Lucille Steffen (Mills)

Viola “Vi” Lucille Steffen, 90, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 2 at the Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road where a wake service will begin at 7 p.m.
Viola was born on March 1, 1926 in Dubuque, the daughter of Elmer and Bernetta (Cain) Mills. She married Gerald J. Steffen on January 29, 1947 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church.
Viola was employed at The Dubuque Pack for over 32 years. She enjoyed gardening, playing euchre, cheering on the Cubs and being with her family and friends. Viola was a UAW card player and a longtime member of the Church of the Resurrection.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Carol (Bob) Dietzel, of East Dubuque, IL; brother-in-law, Jerome Steffen, of Peosta, IA; sister-in-law, Bette Mills, of West Palm Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Curtis “Curt” Steffen; daughter, Cynthia Steffen; 6 brothers, Donald, Bernell (Violet), Carl, Merlin, Elmer (Nancy), and Harold Mills; 3 sisters, Gladys Curler, Pearl Bennett, and Ruth (Wesley Sr.) Davis; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Marc) Heisler, Sylvester (Marie) Stefffen, Edward Steffen, Reynold (Frances) Steffen, Francis Steffen, Mrs. Lorraine Steffen, and Andrew (Eileen) Steffen.
