Douglas H. Buswell 94, of Shoreline, Washington and formerly of Dubuque, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Shoreline. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. where a reflection time will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Douglas was born on December 29, 1921 in Tower City, N. Dakota, the son of Frank H. and Alma (Clausen) Buswell. After high school and a year of depression-era odd jobs, Doug worked at Lockheed Aircraft’s Burbank, CA assembly plant for a year prior to serving in the Naval Reserve from 1942 to 1946. He attended the Navy’s V-12 college training program at Montana School of Mines and the University of Notre Dame. Following his discharge from the Navy, Doug continued college as a veteran at Montana State University earning a degree in Industrial Engineering in December 1947. On June 17, 1950, Doug married Mary L. Pollock in Fargo, N. Dakota. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2011. After working for an engineering firm in Fargo, N. Dakota and the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon, Doug joined Interstate Power Co. of Dubuque, Iowa in 1955. He retired from there in 1990 as Chairman of the Board.

Upon retirement and for several years following, Doug volunteered his service as President of Dubuque Area Industrial Development Corp. and also served several years on the Greater Dubuque Development Corp., including a term as President.

Doug is survived by his children Ann Buswell of Bellingham, WA and George (Kerri Griffin) Buswell of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother Ronald Buswell of Shasta Lake, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his daughter, Amy Buswell and his brother, Richard Buswell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Dubuque, 1299 Locust Street, Dubuque, IA 52001.
