Obituary for Ken J Helmke

Kenneth J. “Ken” Helmke, 67, of Dubuque died Monday, October 17, 2016. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday at Hope Church, 11893 John F. Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, Iowa, where visitation will also be held from 9:15-10:15. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Ken was born August 4, 1949 in Wausau, Wisc., son of Earl and Emma (Schmahl) Helmke. He graduated from Grinnell High School, received his bachelor’s degree from University of Northern Iowa, his Masters of Divinity from Wartburg Theological Seminary and his Masters of Business Administration from University of Dubuque.
He enjoyed reading, geneology, and had a love of God and family.
Ken is survived by his wife, Lynn of Dubuque; four children, Sherri Reding of Dubuque and her children, Jordan, Andrea and Marissa; Jonathan (Amy) Helmke of Nacogdoches, Texas and their children, Samuel and Laura; Elisa Helmke of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Laura (David) Ten Clay of Burbank, Ill., and their children, Joshua, Hannah and Joseph.
He is also survived by his mother, Emma Helmke of Grinnell; siblings, Mark (Beth) Helmke of Geneva, Ill, Eloise (Gary) Froah of Newton, Iowa, Sara (Victor) Gaultney of England, and Tom Helmke of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Helmke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ken Helmke Memorial Fund.
