Richard L. Wright, 88, of Dubuque, was called home to heaven at 5:45 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from Luther Manor. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 24 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2145 John F. Kennedy Road, where visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 23 and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. the morning of service. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6.
Richard was born May 13, 1928 in Wichita, Kansas to Jesse Lee and Lorene (Aldrich) Wright. He received his education in the Wichita public schools and graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He attended law school at the University of Washington in Seattle. He became a Christian in 1977.
He married Mary Margaret Horn in March 1951. She preceded him in death in 1993. To this union, two children were born, Lee Ann Blythe and Richard Alan.
He proudly served his country in Korea 1951-1952 as an infantryman in “K” Company, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was a proud member of Dubuque’s 2011 Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
He worked for many years on various assignments for the Boeing Company, including the Minuteman Missile project. Richard then joined the Sybron Corporation in Rochester, NY and was transferred to Dubuque in 1979 as Vice President of Manufacturing at Thermolyne, a division of Sybron. He retired in 1993.
He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran, the VFW, American Legion, and served as a Hospice volunteer. For many years, he served on the board of the Dubuque chapter of the American Red Cross.
On January 1, 2001, he was united in marriage with Rogene M. (Riese) Faulkner at Our Redeemer Lutheran. He always, when speaking of this, said they were married 1-1-1 at 1:11. The years of his life since then had brought him a special kind of happiness. They had fifteen wonderful years together at home, wintering in Arizona, and traveling the U.S. and abroad.
Richard would like to be remembered as a loving husband and a Christian who loved our Lord Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Margaret; son Richard Alan in 1990; brother Gerald; and brothers in law Chester Winegarner, James D. Webber, and J. Thomas Wells.
Richard is survived by his wife Rogene; daughter LeeAnn B. (Robert) Trynoski of Aurora, CO; stepdaughter Christina Faulkner of Napa, CA; stepson Scott T. (Susan) Faulkner of Dubuque; four grandchildren Jason, Zeb, Caleb and Courtlee Trynoski; three step grandchildren Dustin, David, and Melissa Splinter; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Frances Webber and Ruth Wells of Wichita, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Richard’s name to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dubuque Lutheran School, or Hospice of Dubuque.
