Richard “Dick” Link, 82, formerly of 3074 Kaufmann Ave, Dubuque, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Dick was born on December 20, 1933 in Dubuque, son of Joseph P. and Marie (Richard) Link. He attended St. Columbkille’s Parochial School from elementary through high school, where he excelled at basketball and had the pleasure of being on the team that won the district championship.
On May 11, 1963, Dick married Mary Catherine Stejskal in Cresco, Iowa. They were blessed with four children. She preceded him in death in 2009 after 46 years of marriage.
Dick worked for the US Postal Service for over 32 years. After retirement, he worked part time delivering prescriptions. Dick was a devout Catholic and active member of Resurrection Parish. He was a member of Lacoma Golf Club in East Dubuque and was very proud of his four life-time “hole in one” shots. He was an avid fan of the Packers and Cubs, and a serious Euchre player. Dick especially enjoyed children, and was proud of his children and each of his ten grandchildren. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family and friends, his smile, and quirky sense of humor.
Dick is survived by his son, Steve (Jean) Link of Dubuque; three daughters, Dianne (Paul) Willging of Albany, IL, Karen (Scott) Gray of Arizona, and Martha (Patrick) King of Waukee, IA; four siblings, Lois (John) Drexler, Phillip (Barbara) Link, Joe (Connie) Link, and Ginny (Dick) Meyers; sister in law, Mary Link; grandchildren, Ashley and Casey Link; Jeff, Jake and Abby Willging; Adam and Ryan Gray; and Will, Alex, and Colin King; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother Jack Link; nephew, Greg Link; and great nephew, Derrick Drexler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Resurrection Parish, Hospice of Dubuque, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
