Mary Florine Cate, 94, of Dubuque died Friday, July 08, 2016 at Oak Park Place. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where the Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson celebrating. Entombment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Florine was born April 8, 1922 in Dubuque County, daughter of Henry and Annabel (Winders) Roussel. She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High. She married John Mason Cate in 1941. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2007.
Florine volunteered with many organizations; including, 45 years as a 4-H leader, 10 years with the Dubuque County Mental Health Commission, and 24 years with the Care Review Commission. She was also a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and was a funeral dinner volunteer.
She is survived by three children, Robert (Sharon) Cate of Asbury, Carol (Francis) Boland of Boscobel, Wisc., and John “Jay” (Dawn) Cate of Honey Creek, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter in law, Mary Cate of Minnesota; and two sisters in law, Maxine Roussel of Texas and Grace Schnorenberg of Dubuque.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Cate; a daughter, Nancy Duensing; a son in law, Rollin Duensing; a granddaughter, Danielle Cate; and a brother, Donald Roussel.
