Obituary for Arlys C Runde (Schrup)

Arlys C. Runde, 87, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Church of The Resurrection with the Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Arlys Carol was born on August 16, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Carl H. and Evelyn E. (Stillmunks) Schrup. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and attended Clarke College in Dubuque. On May 2, 1951, Arlys married John (J.R.) Runde at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1977. Arlys was a personal bank officer at American Trust & Savings Bank for over 25 years, retiring in 1991.

Arlys enjoyed daily mass, spending time with her children, grandchildren, sisters, and “putzing” in her yard. She lived a simple and quiet life. She loved tending to her fruit and vegetable gardens, fishing, canning and playing computer games. She spent much of her life taking care of others. She was very good natured and very fun to be around. She had a way of lifting your mood with a meaningful saying or a humorous quip. Arlys lived with many tragedies in her life, especially the loss of her daughter from lupus, and the sudden and early losses of her husband and son. She never complained because everything was always “copasetic.” She was a remarkable wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to all that knew her. She was an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Andrea (Dean) Burger of Sioux City, IA, and Lori (Paul) Schroeder of Le Mars, IA, two granddaughters, Jordan Burger of Coralville, IA, and Allie Schroeder of Denver, CO, five grandsons Nate Burger of Ames, IA, Sam Schroeder of Sioux Falls, SD, AJ Schroeder of Champaign, IL, Joseph Runde and Jacob Runde, of Dubuque, sisters Rita Palen and Evelyn Stieber of Dubuque, Mary Kay Speak of Davenport, IA, and Karen (Mike) Pauly of Urbandale, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Teri Marie Runde, a son J.Scott Runde, three sisters Elizabeth Ann Schrup in infancy, Sally Ryan, Dorothy Brown, a niece Sheila Ryan and a nephew, Carl Anthony Palen.
