Obituary for John J "Jackie" Vogt Sr.

John J "Jackie"  Vogt Sr.
John J. “Jackie” Vogt Sr., 86, of Dubuque IA died on December 29, 2015 at Lake Prince Woods, Suffolk, Virginia. He was the loving husband of Naomi Vogt. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Steve Rosonke Officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Jackie was born July 27, 1929, son of John and Mary (Bechen) Vogt. He graduated from Loras Academy in 1947and was employed by the Dubuque Packing Co. and Family Beer and Liquor in East Dubuque IL. He was an avid trout fisherman, enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and loved the great outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Naomi, three sons; Gerald, Thomas (Karen) and John (Robin) Vogt, his daughter Susan (Scott) Williams, his brother James (Janann) Vogt, and his stepsister Rosie Morley. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 of great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; stepfather, Ross; brother Ray and stepbrother Gene Morley.

A memorial fund will be established for Hillcrest Family Services in John’s honor. He always supported Gary Gansemer’s work with the youth of the tri-state area.
