Eugene  Pierotti
Eugene L. “Gene” Pierotti 83, of 3460 Starlite Dr., passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with the Rev. Hilary Aidoo officiating. A visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the church where a parish scripture wake service will be recited at 5:30.
Gene was born on December 26, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Dario and Bruna (Gregolini). He spent four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict before graduating from Loras College in 1959. On June 3, 1961, Gene married Genevieve Colbert at Holy Family Church in Mason City, Iowa. He taught and coached at Holy Family and Newman high schools in Mason City before moving to Dubuque in 1964. Gene coached boys and girls golf and sophomore boys’ basketball at Wahlert High School. He was athletic director from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. Gene was elected into the IAHS AD Hall of Fame in 1995.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve of Dubuque; his children Stephen (Charlene) Pierotti of Dubuque and their children Lauren and Nathan; Doug Pierotti of Palm Springs, CA; David (Amy) Pierotti of The Woodlands, TX and their children Alicia (Brad) Munson and their children Brady, Kobe, Ellie and Presley, Tyler Pierotti and Ali (Paul) Schafer; Elizabeth Pierotti-Heiar and her children Alex and Maddie and his sister, Melba (Wally) DalSanto of Titusville, FL.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise.
Memorials may be given to Wahlert High School.
The Pierotti family wishes to thank Dr. Joseph Compton, his nurse Jody and the 5th floor nursing staff at Finley Hospital for their constant care and support.
