Carl  Oberhoffer
Carl L. Oberhoffer, 89, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Church of the Nativity with Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Post #6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Rd, Dubuque.
Carl was born on August 1, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Carl J. and Margery (Plitz) Oberhoffer He served in the United States Navy during WWII. On June 12, 1948, Carl married Marilyn Aliesch at the Church of the Nativity. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2013.
He was employed at John Deere for 38 years.
The most important thing in Carl’s life was his wife Marilyn, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the special times at the cottage with them. He loved to fish, bowl, play euchre, travel, dance and go hunting with his sons.
Carl was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nativity and a member of the American Legion Post #6 of Dubuque.
He is survived by his four sons, Michael (Kay) Oberhoffer, Mark (Peg) Oberhoffer, Jeff Oberhoffer, and Jerry (Patty) Oberhoffer, all of Dubuque; grandchildren Michelle (Paul) Munya, Matt (Beth) Oberhoffer, David (Trisha) Oberhoffer, Dana (Casey) Conney, Ryan (Kristi) Oberhoffer, Sara Jenaman, Chris (Holly) Oberhoffer, Molly (Tyler) Carson, Nick (Claire) Oberhoffer, and Laura Oberhoffer; 21 great grandchildren; siblings Tom (Jan) Oberhoffer, Russell Oberhoffer, Gail (Chris) Oberhoffer, Shirley (Fred) Schilling, and Margaret (Karl) Jones; and sister-in-law Roberta Oberhoffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Paula Oberhoffer, grandson-in-law Raymond Jenaman; brothers Johnny and Jimmy Oberhoffer and 2 sister-in-laws Jenny Oberhoffer and Diane Oberhoffer
A Carl L. Oberhoffer Memorial Fund has been established.
Carl’s family would like to thank Dr. John Whalen and the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center, especially nurses Emily and Abe.
