Amelia M. Tully 94, of Stonehill Care Center, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015. Funeral services will be held at:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Parish Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Dubuque Marine Corp League.
Amelia was born on July 25, 1921 on the family farm in St. Joseph the Prairie, Iowa the daughter of William and Catherine (McNamara) Sullivan. She graduated from the Visitation Academy and worked at International Harvester. Amelia was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. On October 13, 1952, she married William R. Tully, Jr. at The Church of the Nativity. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2011. Amelia was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church and its rosary society. She was an avid bowler, cub fan and enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are her children; David (Judy) Tully, Jane and Karen Tully, Len (Denise) Tully and Larry (Patty) Tully; grandchildren Tricia (Bill) Berg, David, Sarah, Caroline and Ryan Tully; 2 step grandchildren, Zachary and Alexandria Lyons; 3 great grandchildren, Jack, Alex and Nathan Berg; a sister-in-law Betty Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her husband William; 3 sisters Margaret Sullivan, Catherine McGill and Harriet Barker; 1 brother John Sullivan and a sister-in-law Eileen Bitter.
An Amelia Tully memorial fund has been established.
Amelia’s family wishes to thank Dawn at Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Brian Sullivan and her neighbors Harry and Roann Leitner for all their care and support.
The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
