John E. “Dick” Oberbroeckling, 90, of 751 June Dr., formerly of 12519 N. Cascade Road died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at UnityPoint Health- Finley Hospital, surrounded by family.
A funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m., Monday July 27 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Peosta. Friends may call from 1 – 6 p.m., Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road, where a wake service will being at 1p.m., and from 9 – 9: 45 a.m., Monday at the Church.
Dick was born on January 29, 1925 in Bankston, Iowa the son of Alois and Catherine (Ablen) Oberbroeckling.
He married Gertrude Winders at Nativity Catholic Church in 1953. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2014.
Dick has lived in the Dubuque area for all of his life and was a hard working farmer. He and his wife, Gertrude farmed alongside each other for over 50 years.
He was very proud of his grandchildren and cherished time spent with them.
Dick was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and a proud Leaky member of the Grand Tap.
Surviving are his two sons, John Oberbroeckling, of Dubuque and Karl (Coralee) Oberbroeckling, of Peosta; grandchildren, Jessica and Sarah, of Dubuque, Matt and Jesse, of Peosta, and Daniel (Christine Edwards) of St. Catherine, Iowa; great- granddaughter, Gemma Oberbroeckling; nephew, Ron Oberbroeckling, of Dubuque; niece, Linda Puddicombe, of Carollton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Mitchell; and 7 brothers.
Memorials may be given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.
