Kenneth W. Evers 91, of Bethany Home died Thursday, January 29, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Hal Murray officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Church.
Mr. Evers was born on June 13, 1923 in Arcadia, Iowa, the son of Grover W. and Laura (Bruggeman) Evers. After graduating from the Arcadia Public School, he attended AIB in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked for WPA of Iowa and the Ankeny Ordnance Plant until he was drafted into the service. Ken served with the 10th Mountain Division in the Aleutian Islands and in Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. After his military service, he attended Drake University in Des Moines and received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Ken worked for Baumann Finney & Co. in Chicago and Allen & Company in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids before coming to Dubuque and working for A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co.. He also worked at CyCare Systems until he retired.
Ken married Dolores Nelson on April 21, 1957 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2006. He was both an Elder and a Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving the church for over 50 years. He was also a past member of the Rotary Club, Office Management Association and the National Association of Accountants.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and a brother.
Surviving are nieces and nephews; Pam (Bob) Shippy of Montrose, CO, Lori (Doug) Severson of Chandler, AZ, Tim (Jan) Edmondson of Spencer, IA, Mark (Carol) Evers of Riverside, IA, Douglas (Jill) Evers of Kokomo, IN and Renee (Michael) Sands of Cedar Falls, IA. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church and Bethany Home.
The Evers family extends a special thank you to Bethany Home and all of the caregivers who have helped Ken through the years, especially to Glinda Maternach, his wonderful advocate.
