Obituary for Robert E Zahren

Robert E. "Bob" Zahren, 86, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 27, 2013.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Friends may call from 3-7p.m., Monday, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road.
Robert was born on July 21, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur “Art” and Edna (Hogue) Zahren.
Bob serviced in the Marine Corps during WWII.
He married Barbara M. Bott on November 24, 1951 at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque.
Bob graduated from Loras College in 1951. He started his coaching and teaching career at Mason City, Holy Family from 1952- 1953. He continued on to Heelan High School in Sioux City from 1953- 1956, Loras College from 1956-1966 and was a counselor and coach at Dubuque Senior High School from 1966 until his retirement in 1988. He was an inductee into the hall of fame at Dubuque Senior High School.
He was also employed at Eagle Ridge.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband and father. His passion was being surrounded by his family, celebrating life and enjoying his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Oh, and also a good round of golf.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Zahren; his children, Mike (Pam) Zahren, and their children, Amy (Jeff) Pfeiler, Corey (Jenny) LuGrain and Kaycee; Carol (Clifford) Wyatt, and their children, Shavonne and Jalessa; Judy (Mike) Kalb, all of Dubuque; six great- grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Grace, Addison, Nick, and Jack; a brother-in-law, William Bott; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Zahren.
