Obituary for Muriel C Young (Freund)

Muriel Catherine Young, 81, formerly of Dubuque, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

A Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Garner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today, at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on March 14, 1929, in Dubuque, daughter of Henry and Minnie Freund. She attended Holy Ghost School and graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy. Muriel was proud of her connections to IC and enjoyed lifelong friendships that began there.

She worked as a secretary at H&W Motor Co. for 45 years until her retirement.

Muriel enjoyed special times with her family, especially with her sister, Doris, and her brother, John and their families, and her niece, Liz.

She was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards, playing the slots, shopping and having lunch with her friends. Muriel spent time praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament each week at The Church of the Resurrection.

Surviving are her sister, Doris Leonard and her children, Joan, Jan, Jean (Bret), Joleen and Jim (Nancy); her brother, John (Donna) Freund and his children, Sue, Jack (Kris) and Jayne; her sister-in-law, Barbara Freund and her children, Marie, Cheryl, Alan, Paula, Eric and Andrea; her niece, Liz (Mike) Roth and their children, Jodi and Stephanie; her special great-niece, Jessica Leonard; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie Freund; her sister, Jeanette Roling; her brother, Richard Freund; her brothers-in-law, Merlin Leonard and Robert Roling; her nephew, John Leonard; and her niece, Lisa Helgeson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Alzheimer's Association, The Heart Association, Hospice of Dubuque/Jackson County and The Church of the Resurrection.

A special thank-you to the staff of Mill Valley Care Center, who assisted Muriel during her time there.
